I'm really mixed on the free Community College position...
On one hand, I think it would be great because it would give students who want to go to college the opportunity to try it -- and it would increase enrollments.... which means job security for me :).
On the other hand, many students will do it just to see what happens -- since they don't have to pay tuition, they don't have anything invested -- so it becomes more like the 13th grade than it already is... so the quality of classes would decrease.
Also, the increase in the number of students won't come with more money for tenured faculty -- so the national CC system will be hiring more adjunct faculty, which are not as connected to the college etc... Also, I'd guess they'll increase class size because they don't have laws or other public mandates to keep them small -- so, the CC classes will become even less similar to classes at 4-year schools...
I'm not saying I'm for or against him - I just want a clear concise answer to 'No Child Left Behind". Like IF the states keep messing it up will the Feds finally step in and pay for it? Or better yet repeal it all together.
