Machismo sucks

Few things in this world annoy me more than old-school definitions of gender. Many people are alarmed when I tell them that if/when Mandy and I get married, I'm happy with hyphening my name (Guile-McCloskey), taking her name (Thomas Guile, woohoo!), or having each of us keep our original names. Even more folks are offended at the notion that I am more than willing to be a stay-at-home-dad with a Capri Sun belt and soccer van at the ready. However, the most frequent place when my open-minded gender constructions come in contact with those around me is at the movies. See, I'm a bit of a crier, and since I am also a man, this is offensive to some. So, to spite these people, I present to the blogging community a partial list of movies that I cried in:

--Mona Lisa Smile
--Titanic
--Saving Private Ryan
--It Could Happen to You
--American Beauty
--Hotel Rwanda
--The Constant Gardner
--Remember the Titans
--Philadelphia
--Life as a House

  • Does race play role in hurricane relief?
The hurricane victims plucked from rooftops and slogging through waist-deep water on TV newscasts have been mostly the poor, usually black.

  • I, too, am a movie crier. I am also concerned with the name change issue. I hope that when/if that issue comes up for me, I am with someone who realizes how tricky that issue can be.

  • I believe you also teared up when you and I saw Moulin Rouge a couple years ago.... ;o)

BUT since I cry even at movies that I really want to see and haven't yet (uhh.. yeah, the new HP trailer, totally excited) - I don't have a lot of room to mock you.

  • I take it Constant Gardener was good...good movies make me cry. Speaking of crying at movies, I saw Life is Beautiful in a theater in Texas with my roommate, and we were sobbing so loudly that we had to leave. No kidding.

  • I tried so hard to not cry in the COnstaant Gardener. ah, it was good. ANyway, I have seen Brian cry in a movie and he also wants to be a stay at home dad if I get rich, LOL. Seriously, though, he said that. I actually don't want to hypenate my name... But I don't have a cool last name like McClosky! Or a first name of Gator. (White Lightning- a really old movie.)

TEll me what you thikn about Kanye WEst's outburst at the relief fundraising event he was in? I am completely aggrivated with how he brought race into it at all. Not too mention, there is a time and place for that, and that is not it!

  • Marie, thank God--I'd been worrying about the prospect of your last name for a while.

Thomas: I cry in movies too, and I'm as man as they come. Crying in movies is the new not crying in movies.

  • I cried like a baby at the end of Life as a House. Like a baby.

  • Oh man Constant Gardener was such a good movie. I cried in that a few times. Mostly after it was over just trying to absorb everything I had just seen. I had to sit there until my friends and I were the last one in the theater to absorb everything... and I don't think I'm done understanding it at all. A real thinker that movie. scary and sad that it's so incredibly true.

  • remember the titans.... i suppose that i can let that one slide, but TITANIC!!??? NOOOOO THOMAS!!!! hehe just kidding. i always cry when i watch "the land before time.'

  • I'm definitely a movie crier too. I was sobbing by the end of The Constant Gardener! (and most of the other movies you mentioned too)

  • Oh, man. I get teary in Mona Lisa Smile when she's showing the slide show and she shouts, "What does that mean?" Stops my little feminist heart flat dead.

In conclusion, go ahead and cry buddy. As someone wise in a great film once said, "The world is full of guys. Be a man." A real man would cry at a good movie. Because he can.

    Amen!

For some reason while I had windows vista, I started to get blue screens constantly. I than installed windows xp and the computer was a'lot faster but still, I got the blue screens. There are no viruses on my computer. I don't know much about fixing computers, so hopefully I won't have to take something out or whatever inside my computer, im hoping I can just fix this problem by doing something ON the computer. ***The blue screens will only appear if I basically have alot of graphic material running on the computer, such as if I start a game, play a move, or video on youtube. I think I remember my brother telling me that the problem could be some driver he put in, but he didn't know for sure. Hes the computer genious and the mr. fix it in the house. But he's never home and won't ever look at the problem and fix it. (Please someone help me, I have searched all over google with no solutions.) The most common errors I get on the blue screen are: irql_not_less_or_equal driver_irql_not_less_or_equal Here is my recent error logs starting from today :(Some may be the same as other error logs, but youll be able to see which problem occurs the msot) The device, \Device\Scsi\nvidesm1, did not respond within the timeout period. The device, \Device\Scsi\nvidesm1, did not respond within the timeout period. The wscsvc service failed to start due to the following error: The executable program that this service is configured to run in does not implement the service. Please, someone tell me how to fix this, it is so annoying having to restart my computer constantly and losing stuff. I can't play my favorite games anymore because of this.
